If Frank Piombo’s guitar could be described in a simple sentence, it would be cabernet-worthy. You know very well the sort of music that you want to have with a glass of fine wine and dimmed lights, in an upscale restaurant or a dark-wood-paneled intimate club. Piombo, whose career spans three decades and whose guitar has made waves across the world’s jazz stations, delivers that ambiance and more in a direct, engaging tone and a recognizable and relatable style.
Nightfalls, most notably, calls up the imagery of the dark-wood-paneled club, with flickering lights dissolving and distorting in the rain outside. Pour yourself a glass of Napa Valley’s finest if you are at home, or if you should go to that very club or bar on a rainy night, Piombo will set the mood that you will find matching the wine in your glass every bit as much as a bowtie will match a tailored tux.
Very enjoyable all around, and if you are a fan of Matt Marshak’s Urban Folktales disc, then you will find Frank Piombo’s, The Night Speaks a perfect addition to your music collection.
